SOUTH PORTLAND — Southern Maine Community College has been reaccredited for the next 10 years, the college announced.

Accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education requires that institutions meet “rigorous standards” in areas that include administration, academic programs, faculty, students and facilities, according to a news release.

During the accreditation process, SMCC produced a 228-page self-study and supporting data to illustrate how the college complies with the agency’s standards. Over a three-day period, a visiting team from NECHE had discussions with faculty, staff, students, administrators and trustees on the South Portland campus and the Mid-Coast campus in Brunswick.

SMCC was last reaccredited in 2008. The next comprehensive reaccreditation evaluation is scheduled for 2028.
