PORTLAND — Drivers who use Preble Street Extension between Baxter Boulevard and Marginal Way should seek an alternate route beginning Monday, March 18.

The inbound stretch of road from Baxter to Marginal will be closed for installation of a 60-inch stormwater drain pipe. One outbound lane from Marginal to Baxter will remain open.

The closure is expected to last until April 22, city project engineer Gerry Remsden said March 15.

The work is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to stop combined sewer overflows where wastewater and stormwater both flow to the Portland Water District water treatment plant near East End Beach.

Details of the stormwater drainage work requiring the March 18-April 22 closure of inbound Preble Street Extension are marked in this overhead photo. Marginal Way runs left to right at the top of the photo.
