PORTLAND — A 5:30 p.m. meeting on Thursday, March 21, will explain and answer questions about the public art selection process for the traffic roundabout coming to the University of Southern Maine area.
The meeting will be held in Room 213 at USM’s Abromson Community Education Center at 88 Bedford St. City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said the meeting is hosted by the USM Public Artwork Selection Committee, a part of the city’s Public Art Committee.
The meeting will detail the goals and selection process for the new artwork, funded with $30,000 from the city’s capital improvement plan. The city charter requires 0.5 percent of the total CIP must be set aside for public art.
Bids for the roundabout at the confluence of Deering and Brighton avenues and Falmouth Street are expected to be sought this spring. Public art will be exhibited in the park area between Deering and Brighton avenues.
