Te’Andre King helped NYA’s boys’ basketball team to the playoffs and he was recently named the squad’s Most Valuable Player at NYA’s Winter Sports Awards night.

North Yarmouth Academy had a very strong winter sports season and the Panthers recently awarded several top athletes at its winter sports awards night.

NYA’s girls’ basketball team enjoyed its best season in two decades, reaching the regional final before losing to eventual state champion Boothbay. Catherine Reid was named the Panthers’ Most Valuable Player. Sydney Plummer received the Coach’s Award.

The junior varsity team’s Coach’s Award went to Emma Ranello.

NYA’s boys’ team qualified for the tournament, but lost to Dirigo in the preliminary round. The Panthers named Te’Andre King MVP. Elliott Oney won the Coach’s Award. Miles Chapman was named Most Improved Player.

On the ice, the boys’ team named Finn Murray MVP. Josh Soucy won the Coach’s Award.

The JV team gave its Coach’s Award to Chas Rhode and its Most Improved Player award to Ollie Hemphill.

On the girls’ side, the varsity team’s MVP was Lauren Powers. Jazzy Huntsman was named Most Improved Player. Maggie Holt was given the Coach’s Award.

The boys’ indoor track team gave its MVP to Jack Lent. Kit Cassat was named Most Improved. The Coach’s Award went to Reed Silvers.

On the girls’ side, Eleanor Commons was named MVP. Abby Xu was selected Most Improved. The Coach’s Award went to Amelia Searfoss.

The Athletic Council awards went to Miles Chapman and Serena Mower.

Western Maine Conference All-Academic recognitions went to Maggie Larson and Catherine Reid from basketball, Xander Kostelnik, Josh Soucy and Alasdair Swett in hockey and Abram Buehner, Ellie Griswold, Jack Lent, Amelia Searfoss and Abby Xu in track.
