SANFORD – The Easter Bunny is due to arrive in local neighborhoods in about a month, delivering baskets of eggs to mark the season.

In Sanford on Saturday April 20, the eggs will be delivered in a different way, and families who want to take part must register in advance.

Sanford Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Sanford High School National .Honor Society and the Key Club will be hosting the first ever Helicopter Egg Drop at Cobb Stadium.

“With warmer weather approaching, the Sanford Parks and Rec team wanted to come up with a new, low-cost and exciting program for the families of Sanford,” said Recreation Director Alan Grady. “We had seen helicopter egg drops at other locations and knew they were very popular.  After getting York County Helicopters on board, along with the school department and city, we knew this would be something different and fun for everyone to be a part of.”

Grady said those planning to attend must pre-register at  www.sanfordrec.com – there will be no registrations on the day of the event.

The cost is $3 and children will receive at least six candy or toy-filled eggs and a decorated bag.

He said the Easter bunny may put in an appearance.

“We’re excited to see the smiles on the kid’s faces as a helicopter makes its approach down into Cobb Stadium,” he said.
