ARUNDEL — A high-speed chase in Arundel resulted in the arrest of a driver by York County deputies early Sunday morning.

According to York County Sheriff William L. King Jr., a York County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a 2013 Lexus for exceeding the posted speed limit (75 mph in a 50 mph zone) on Alfred Road, near the Trout Brook intersection in Arundel about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

King said that the deputy activated siren and flashing lights to alert the driver to pull over, instead the vehicle accelerated to a speed estimated to be in excess of 100 mph in an apparent attempt to elude the deputy.

“After approximately one mile, the operator lost control as he tried to turn onto Goodwins Mills Road and crashed into a ditch,” King said.

Thanh Nguyen of South Portland, 27, was arrested and charged with criminal speed, driving to endanger and operating a motor vehicle under the influence for an unidentified substance which he refused to be tested for.

Nguyen posted $300 bail and is scheduled to appear in Alfred Superior Court at 8:15 a.m. May 10 to answer the charge.
