The winter sports season had its share of memorable performances by local athletes.
The biggest highlight came from wrestling, where the Mt. Ararat/Brunswick co-op team took home the Class A state championship and three individuals finished first as well.
Swimming saw several individuals excel, especially from Morse. The Shipbuilders girls’ team was fourth in Class B, while the boys’ squad came in fifth. Brunswick’s girls finished ninth in Class A, while the Dragons boys were 14th. Mt. Ararat’s boys’ team was 12th in Class A and the girls came in 20th.
Brunswick’s boys’ indoor track squad had the best local showing, placing third in Class A and producing an individual champion. The Brunswick girls were 24th. Both Mt. Ararat teams came in 12th in Class A. Morse’s boys tied for 18th place in Class B.
On the ice, Brunswick’s boys’ team gave Cape Elizabeth a scare, but lost in the Class B South semifinals. The Mt. Ararat/Morse/Lisbon/Hyde co-op team lost in overtime to Edward Little in the Class A North quarterfinals and produced the Travis Roy Award winner (top senior player in Class A) in Noah Austin.
