BATH — Bath police say an 8-year-old boy was struck by a van backing out of a parking space near 13 Windjammer Way Tuesday evening.

Bath Deputy Police Chief Robert Savary said the white Ford van that hit the child was driven by 21-year-old Cameron Dematteo. Savary said it appears the boy had been a passenger in the van and had just been dropped off shortly after 5:45 p.m. He was struck when the van was backing up.

The boy complained of pain and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland primarily for precautionary reasons, Savary said.

“My understanding is he’s going to make a full recovery and he’s doing fine,” Savary said.

The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

“It doesn’t appear that there was any sort of reckless conduct,” Savary said.
