Hannaford recognized for LGBTQ policies, support

Hannaford Supermarkets was the only grocery retailer in its five-state region to receive a perfect score by the Human Rights Campaign, Corporate Equality Index for its inclusive, equitable, and non-discriminatory work environment for the LGBTQ community.

“This accomplishment acknowledges the ways we create and promote safe and welcoming environments and support and celebrate our LGBTQ associates,” said Jim Hamilton, Hannaford’s executive sponsor of Hannaford’s Diversity and Inclusion Council. “Many associates have said that they specifically chose to work at Hannaford for that reason – and nothing fills me with more pride than those comments.”

According to the 2019 Corporate Equality Index report, in order for Hannaford to be designated a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ equality,” the supermarket chain  demonstrated that it took “concrete steps to ensure greater equity for LGBTQ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits, and practices.”
