Bags for a Cause

Through the Hannaford Bags for a Cause program, the Gray Recreation Department will receive a $1 donation for each reusable bag purchased at the Gray Hannaford during the month of April.

Cornhole for Bronc

A cornhole tournament to benefit Bronc and Lisa Skilling will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 27 at the New Gloucester Eagles Club. There also will be a 50/50 auction.

Bronc Skilling, an active member of the local snowmobile club and GNG ATV, suffered a stroke in February.

The Gray Public Library Association’s Spring Book Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 at the library. The Early Bird Sale, with a $5 admission charge, will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 26.

Bridge closing

The Maine Turnpike Authority has announced that the Dutton Hill Road Bridge will close again toward the end of April to allow for final paving. There will be a detour in place at that time. An exact date of the closure will be posted when it is given. Paving and time frames are dependent on weather.

Kitchen sale and supper

An Everything Kitchen Sale will be hosted by The Women’s Fellowship of the First Congregational Church of Gray from 9 a.m. to noon May 4 at the Parish House, 5 Brown St., behind McDonald’s. Rada Cutlery, aprons, dishcloths and table runners will be featured. There will also be a Second-Time Around area and free coffee.

Public supper

Baked beans, casseroles, salads, homemade breads and desserts will be served at a public supper at 5 p.m. April 27 at the First Congregational Church of Gray, Route 115. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. The church is  handicapped accessible. For more information, call 657-4279, or on the day of the supper, 657-3279.

Longest Day 5K

The annual Longest Day 5K to benefit Libby Hill Forest will be held June 21.  A free Kids Fun Run will occur before the 5K about 7 p.m. GNG students can register for free. Local businesses have donated prizes to be drawn. To register, go to libbyhill.org.

Karaoke championship

A Karaoke Dance Party will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at American Legion Post 86, 15 Lewiston Road. This will be the third qualifier for the karaoke contest. There will be open karaoke for the first few hours followed by the invitation for previous winners to compete in the championship for larger prizes.

The Dutton Hill bridge will be closed again later this month for final paving. It underwent a $1.5 million rehabilitation project last year.
