BIDDEFORD — A total of 11 Biddeford Middle School sixth-grade band members were selected to perform in the 6th Grade District 1 Honors Music Festival at Old Orchard Beach High School on March 9.
According to Amy Delorge, BMS Director of Bands, this group represented the most dedicated, committed, talented students from throughout York County.
Students received challenging music for the festival which they practiced independently at home and after school in rehearsals for two months with Delorge, who is their Band Director.
At the festival, the band members met the students from the other schools for the first time, their conductor, George Shabo, and got busy rehearsing and practicing as an ensemble for the first time. Students rehearsed for nearly five hours throughout the day and then at 3 p.m. put on a wonderful concert to a packed house.
Representing BMS Band at the 2019 Sixth Grade District 1 Honors Festival were:
Alto Saxophone: Nikolai Davidenko and Timothy Simon
Clarinet: Ella Ireland and Gabriella Smith
Bass Clarinet: Erin Aldrich
Flute: Jennifer Danis, Kayla Arsenault, and Talia Poisson
Tenor Saxophone: Joseph Nason
Trumpet: Ben Descoteaux
Trombone: Jeniece Wilder
All in all the students had an exciting, fun day meeting new friends, and creating wonderful music surrounded by like-minded peers, Delorge said.
“Each of the 11 BMS Band members said that they were tired after the full day, had a great time and were excited for the opportunity to participate as seventh-graders in the York County Festival which will be held at Biddeford Middle School from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2020,” Delorge said.
