The spring sports season has gotten off to a slow start for local teams, due to questionable weather and field conditions, but many squads have kicked off their 2019 campaign and early results have been promising.

Here’s a recap:

Baseball

Mt. Ararat’s baseball team is off to a promising 3-0 start, defeating visiting Skowhegan (4-0), visiting Mt. Blue (10-0, in six-innings) and host Morse (13-3, in five-innings) in early action. The Eagles were home with Oxford Hills Thursday, visit Bangor Friday and welcome Medomak Valley Wednesday of next week.

Morse started with a 17-5 home loss to Maine Central Institute, downed visiting Lake Region, 6-1, then lost, 13-3 (in five-innings) at home to Mt. Ararat. The Shipbuilders were at Medomak Valley Wednesday, host Lincoln Academy Friday, go to Oceanside Monday and play at Leavitt Wednesday of next week.

Brunswick started with losses at Cony (5-2) and at home to Bangor (8-3). After going to Lewiston Wednesday, the Dragons visit Edward Little Friday, welcome Camden Hills Monday, play a home makeup game versus Lincoln Academy Tuesday, then host Oxford Hills Wednesday of next week.

Softball

Morse is the only local school to register a softball win so far. The Shipbuilders started 2-1 by sandwiching home wins over MCI (13-3) and Mt. Ararat (13-2) around a 2-1 home loss to Lake Region. The Shipbuilders were at Medomak Valley Wednesday, host Lincoln Academy Friday, go to Oceanside Monday and play at Leavitt Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat started with a 26-0 (five-inning) home loss to Skowhegan, then fell, 7-4, to visiting Mt. Blue and 13-2 at Morse.  The Eagles were home with Oxford Hills Thursday, visit Bangor Friday and welcome Medomak Valley Wednesday of next week.

Brunswick began with losses to host Cony (15-14) and visiting Bangor (13-0).  After going to Lewiston Wednesday, the Dragons visit Edward Little Friday, welcome Camden Hills Monday, play a home makeup game versus Lincoln Academy Tuesday, then host Oxford Hills Wednesday of next week.

Boys’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s defending Class B state champion boys’ lacrosse team rolled, 16-8, at Gardiner in its first game. The Dragons were at Lewiston Wednesday, host South Portland Friday and welcome Cony Monday.

Mt. Ararat beat host Maranacook (9-8) and MCI (13-0) to start 2-0. The Eagles were home with Oak Hill Wednesday, host Marshwood Saturday and welcome Morse Thursday of next week.

Morse beat host Lincoln Academy, 16-14, in its first game. The Shipbuilders were home with Oxford Hills Wednesday, travel to Westbrook Saturday and Lawrence Monday, then go to Morse Thursday of next week.

Girls’ lacrosse

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat was the only team to play a game at press time, downing visiting Lawrence, 13-4, in its first outing. The Eagles were at Morse Tuesday, travel to North Yarmouth Academy Saturday and visit Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.

Morse opened at home versus Mt. Ararat Tuesday and went to Oceanside Thursday. The Shipbuilders go to Greely Saturday and host Messalonskee Tuesday of next week.

Brunswick’s first game was Tuesday at Cony. After visiting Biddeford Friday, the Dragons welcome Gardiner Tuesday of next week.
