FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A person familiar with the situation says the New England Patriots have reached an agreement on a two-year extension with receiver Julian Edelman.

The deal is worth $18 million and includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million in guaranteed money.

The source spoke on the condition of anonymity Tuesday because terms have not been announced.

Edelman signed a two-year, $11 million extension in 2017. He was scheduled to make $2 million in base salary in 2019, with bonuses that pushed in close to $4 million. This extension keeps the 32-year-old under contract with the Patriots through the 2021 season.

A seventh-round pick by New England in 2009, it also gives the reigning Super Bowl MVP a chance to complete his career with the team he’s helped win three rings.

Edelman missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL and the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the league’s performance enhancers policy. But he helped steady New England down the stretch, finishing the season with 74 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns.
