TOPSHAM — Merrymeeting Adult Education celebrated the graduation of 24 students on May 21, in a ceremony at Mt. Ararat High School. These adult learners completed either the High School Equivalency Tests (HiSET, formerly GED) or traditional high school diploma during the 2018-19 academic year. 

Director Diana McCain led the celebration, followed by opening remarks from Bob Lucy, interim superintendent of Maine School Administrative District 75, and Paul Perzanowski. Brunswick School District superintendent. Diplomas were presented by McCain and Paul Elisha, Merrymeeting’s academic counselor. 

Special recognition was paid to Sage Gowen, Kimberly Holbrook, Rachel Kopp and Shaine Robinson, who were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society. Commencement speeches were presented to fellow graduates, friends, family, and staff and faculty of Merrymeeting Adult Education by Sage, Kimberly, and Shaine. 

Diplomas were awarded to Joshua Bouchard, Kylie Brackett, Erin Brehm, Marissa Chaney, Robert Creamer, Ryan Cotter, Vivianne Courant, Madison Cowette, Marilyn Daniel, Sage Gowan, Abigail Green, Kimberly Holbrook, Rachel Kopp, Elijah LevausserMartyna Martin, Molly Martin, Will Martin, Renan Moguel, Mackenzie Nichols, Shaine Robinson, Jax Rogers, Gwenyth Sullivan, Lee Taylor, Mary Waters, and Richard Williams.  

Merrymeeting Adult Education provides opportunities for adult learners to complete a traditional high school diploma, earn a HiSET, prepare for college, train for careers, and develop skills and interests in a variety of personal enrichment classes, everything from canoe paddle making to private pilot ground school.
