SACO — One of the top transportation and logistics firms in the Northeastern United States has opened a 33,000-square-foot service facility in Saco’s Mill Brook Business Park.

A. Duie Pyle, founded in 1924 and headquartered in West Chester, Pennsylvania, purchased the 53-acre parcel for the new facility from the Brockway-Smith Company for $932,350 in 2017. It will run both small freight and custom-dedicated operations out of its new integrated logistics center at 85 Industrial Park Road in Saco.

Company officials say the new facility will provide for greater flexibility and create the ability for A. Duie Pyle drivers to deliver higher levels of service to customers in the Maine and Northern New Hampshire region.

“We are excited with our continued growth and for the new efficiencies our customers will gain utilizing the new integrated site,” said John Luciani, Chief Operating Officer of LTL Services at A. Duie Pyle. “Providing superior quality service is the hallmark of what Pyle sets out to achieve, so placing greater tools and resources in the hands of our customers is always our real focus when opening new locations.”

Luciani said this new A. Duie Pyle facility in Saco will differ significantly from the one the company operated in South Portland for several years, but has since closed with all 60 employees transferred to Saco.

“When we opened our Portland Integrated Service Center, we leased a facility in South Portland that could accommodate our LTL and Custom Dedicated operations. Our original facility is an older warehouse with 15 dock doors on five acres of land,” he said. “Shortly after opening in March 2015, we began our land search and found our new site in Saco that has almost 38 acres, which allowed Pyle to build a state-of-the-art facility to our specifications. Our new location has 40 dock doors, a three-bay shop and fully automated truck wash.”

According to Luciani, the main advantage of opening the new Saco facility was that the company is able to own and build a facility that allows them to exceed their customer’s service expectations while providing a facility its employees can be proud to call home.

He said the company is pleased with the Saco location.

“We were looking for land that would meet our expectations and allow for long term growth in the future. Our new Saco location gives us the ability grow our business and exceed our customer’s service expectations due to close proximity to the major highways.

The Saco logistics center is expected to provide an additional 20 full-time jobs to the area, including driver, dock, fleet tech and administration staff and will be run by an Integrated Service Center Manager with support from the local leadership team that includes a Fleet Maintenance Shop Supervisor, he said.

Overall, A. Duie Pyle provides a range of integrated transportation and warehouse distribution services supported by 24 LTL service centers and 10 warehouse facilities comprised of more than 2.5 million square feet of space with estimated annual revenues of $428.9 million.

The new Saco facility follows several other expansions of Pyle’s network in 2019, including facilities in MarylandNew Hampshire, and New York.

“We are excited that A. Duie Pyle has chosen to expand business operations by locating its newest service center here in Saco on the Industrial Park Road,” said Denise M. Clavette, Saco Planning and Development Director. “A. Duie Pyle’s expansion is part of recent growth happening in Saco with several new businesses locating and expanding in Mill Brook Business Park. The addition of a quality service operation with 20 full-time jobs is an asset to Saco and surrounding communities.”
