LIVERMORE — Game wardens have identified the 88-year-old Rumford man who died Friday afternoon when the boat he was in overturned on Brettuns Pond near Route 108.
Henry Zinck did not make it to shore, and witnesses found him unresponsive. Game wardens and EMS workers unsuccessfully tried CPR at the scene.
He was not wearing a life jacket, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Zinck was in the 12-foot aluminum boat with Peter Dragoon, 88, of Livermore and Barbara Lizotte, 71, of Auburn when the vessel sank near the pond’s southern shore.
The call to emergency services arrived around 1 p.m.
Dragoon was operating the boat, wardens said, and he and Lizotte safely swam 75 yards back to shore.
It was not immediately clear what caused the boat, which was powered by an electric motor, to overturn. Officials pulled the boat from the bottom of the pond later on Friday.
The state medical examiner is still determining the precise cause of Zinck’s death. Game wardens also continue to investigate the incident.
