BANGOR — Holly Temple and Belle Hemond scored to lift the Mt. Ararat High School field team to a 2-1 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Bangor on Monday. 

The Eagles improved to 1-1 and visits Edward Little today at 4 p.m. The Rams are 0-2.

Brea Holtet set up Temple’s goal, while Temple found the freshman Hemond for her first varsity goal. 

Kate Ruhlin scored on a penalty stroke for Bangor. 

Mt. Ararat goalie Lily Schenk and Bangor keeper McKenzie Morin each had six saves.

Ally Randall of Freeport scored after 10 minutes and Abigail Howes of Fryeburg Academy tied it on a corner after time expired in the first half Monday as the Western Maine Conference opponents played to a tie.

Randall’s goal for the Falcons (2-0-1) was a shot off the goalie’s pads.

Eliza Thorne led an offense for the Raiders (0-1-1) that forced Freeport goalie Piper Sherbert to make 10 saves. 

Raiders goalie Bailey Richardson blocked eight shots against a Freeport offense sparked by Autumn Golding.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday at home against Lake Region (6 p.m.).

On Saturday at Farmington, the host Cougars scored three goals in each half for a KVAC win over the Dragons, who visit Skowhegan on Thursday at 4 p.m. 

Kelsey Dorman had two goals, and Leila Durrell chipped in a first-half goal for Mt. Blue (1-0). 

Abbie Belanger tallied the lone Brunswick (0-1) goal with 22:47 left in the second half. 

Eva Stevens and Molly Harmon had one assist each.

“Mt. Blue is a strong, talented team, but I was pleased how we never backed down the entire game,” said Brunswick coach Carrie Sullivan. “We were able to keep up with the pace on our first turf game, which is a credit to the work the players put in all preseason.” 

Brunswick keeper Liberty Krauss turned aside 19 shots.
