SACO — The Saco School Department is hosting monthly workshops at local schools in an effort to be more accessible to the community and better familiarize board members with the schools.

Typically, the school board holds meetings and workshops at the City Hall.

The school board announced at it’s Wednesday night meeting that it will hold a monthly workshop session at one of the city’s schools, alternating between schools each month.

This month’s workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 at Gov. Fairfield School, 75 Beach St. in Saco.

Prior to the meeting, Fairfield School principal Maureen McMullin will give school board members a tour of the building.

School Board Chairman Garrett Abrahamson said the school board has thought about holding meetings at the schools for a while.

“The hope is by holding in schools we’ll encourage more people to come,” said Abrahamson. He said schools are more familiar to parents and may be a more comfortable environment for them.

“We welcome you, we invite you, we would love to see you,” said School Board Member Stanley Mozden to community members.

No decisions will be made at the monthly workshop meetings, and voting on any matter discussed at a workshop will take place at school board meeting at a later date.
