DOVER, N.H. — The commanding officer of the New Hampshire State Police has apologized to the families of two women who were stabbed to death after investigators’ errors led to a mistrial.
Seacoastonline.com reports Col. Christopher Wagner wrote in a statement that state police investigators fell short in their legal obligations to provide all evidence in the case of Timothy Verrill.
Verrill was accused of stabbing the women in Farmington in 2017. A judge declared a mistrial Thursday after the second revelation in a week that investigators had failed to turn over witness interview recordings, emails, text messages and other evidence that could’ve shaped the defense and state’s cases and who the attorneys subpoenaed to testify at trial.
Wagner wrote police are working to understand what happened and “we will move in a swift and determined manner to address any deficiencies.”
