HARTFORD, Conn. — Public and private institutions across Connecticut can begin applying to become sponsors of a federally funded program that provides nutritious meals and snacks to needy children and adults.
Participating entities, including child and adult day care programs, and emergency shelters, will be reimbursed under the program for each meal they serve, according to predetermined federal reimbursement rates that are based on the income levels of the families served by the program.
More than 375 local child care centers and adult care care centers across Connecticut currently participate in the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program, or CACFP, providing meals to more than 24,000 people daily. About 800 day care home provider locations also participate, providing meals to more than 3,900 children daily.
The initiative is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
