KENNEBUNK — Signs of his work are all over town, but do you know the man behind the artwork?

Meet Mike Prevost, of Prevost Signs, who has been giving local businesses their identity for 25 years in Kennebunk, across Maine, and throughout the country and world.

Most recently he completed the new sign on the Mat Lanigan Bridge welcoming tourists into the Kennebunks. Garden Street Bowl and Crotux Restaurant are among some of his work. He recently created the new sign at Mother’s Beach, as well as the Kennebunk High School sign. Through the years he’s created and refurbished thousands of pieces, from Kennebunk Fire Department trucks to the wraps on W.B. Mason vans to wooden signs for The Nonantum and The Kennebunk Inn, among the many.

“For an eclectic guy who has tried every job in the world, I have found my love in signs,” said Prevost. “When I started doing this, I didn’t see it as work. And 25 years later, it still doesn’t feel like work.”

Prevost Signs is a full-service sign shop that does it all, from traditional wooden signs with gold-leaf lettering, to metal signs, back-lit signs and vinyl graphics of all kinds, such as banners and full-car wraps, and even awnings. “Vinyl graphics” often includes vehicle and boat lettering too.

“I do everything myself, from the graphic design (or implementing an existing logo) to production or refurbishing work,” he said.

Prevost says he especially loves those projects that others have said can’t be done.

“I always come up with a way,” said Prevost, proudly describing the many one-of-a-kind projects he has completed through the years. “I enjoy blending modern-day technology with old-world craftsmanship.”

Big or small, Prevost takes on projects of all scopes and does the job right. “Industry standard is two coats of primer and two coats of paint, but if it doesn’t look right I will do another coat or two, whatever it takes until we get it right.”

That’s just what you do when you do what you love. “What’s that saying?” he asked, quoting “‘Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.'”

To celebrate 25 years, Prevost is offering 10 percent off to new clients, and 12.5 percent off for Chamber of Commerce members this year. To contact Prevost Signs, call 207-205-5100, www.PrevostSigns.com or email [email protected] find Prevost Signs on Facebook.
