Fiddlehead Center for the Arts-Scarborough has recently partnered with Spillers Reprographics to commission a mural facing Route 114.
SCARBOROUGH — Fiddlehead Center for the Arts-Scarborough has been catching the attention of the community and the people driving on Gorham Road with a new mural on the side of its building. A ribbon cutting for the colorful painting, which features a book opening to the sky with swirling colors and imaginative images connected to the three main elements of the center which includes art, science and much more, took place Nov. 20.
The mural was commissioned after the center’s GoFundMe page met its goal, raising over $1,000 in just a week. The Fiddlehead Center began working with local graffiti artist and muralist Mike Rich in the summer of 2021 to create the mural. The center partnered with its neighbor Spillers Reprographics. Rich met with the students to find out what Fiddlehead meant to them and began working on a design for a mural. The mural stands 30 by 18 feet and can be seen from eastbound traffic on Route 114 as well as those who visit Fiddlehead.
