Sen. Susan Collins should not be trying to replace a Senate impeachment trial with censure. Donald Trump is an American citizen and was the American president, who took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States. The lies he told for months on end and the insurrection he encouraged on Jan. 6 were extremely serious.
Susan Collins thought he had “learned … a pretty big lesson” from his first impeachment. I think she is trying to avoid having to vote again and tell all the citizens of this country how she feels about what Donald Trump did that resulted in this second impeachment.
We deserve to know how she and every senator votes after being reminded during the trial exactly what happened. Conscience and the Constitution are more important than party.
