GRAY – Judith I. Huff, 85, passed away Jan. 30, 2021 at her home in West Gray. She was born on July 1, 1935 in Westbrook, the daughter of Everett and Dorotha Berry, and graduated from Pennell Institute. Judy was an active and committed Gray citizen who spent countless hours volunteering for the Gray Library, Gray Historical Society, and the Wildlife Park at the gift shop. She collected thousands of obituaries of Gray citizens, high school class photos from 1901 to 1962, photographed every business in Gray, and recorded both moves of the Civil War Monument while serving as a volunteer for the Historical Society. Her photographs of the Civil War Monument were so detailed the engineers referenced them for the second move.Judy volunteered in nearly all Town activities such the Gray Bicentennial, Annual Memorial Day Parades, Old Homes Days events and anything in between. She was known for doing things before somebody would think to ask her. Judy was interviewed a few times about all her volunteering and she did not think it was at all unusual. She was very quick to tell you all about people who do so much for others. She was a dispatcher for the Gray Fire Rescue for 25 years and worked in the Town Office. She enjoyed doing family genealogy and spending time with her family and extended family.Her husband of 38 years, Everett L. Huff passed away in 1991. She is survived by daughters Alma Cleaves and Janice Huff of Gray, son Timothy and wife Claire of Palm Bay, Fla.; brother Albert Berry of New Gloucester; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
