Members of the both houses of Congress, as well as virtually all the rest of us, have pledged allegiance to the flag, and to the Republic for which it stands.

That pledge ends by committing to liberty and justice for all. There is no appendix to the pledge which says “unless it hurts my chance for reelection,” or “unless it is a member of my party,” or “unless the person has done something as ‘minor’ as inciting an insurrection.”

We must recognize that the senators who are doing everything in their power to avoid bringing someone to justice are themselves breaking their solemn pledge. Let us not take that lightly.
