DETROIT — Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves for his first career shutout and fellow rookie Philipp Kurashev scored a pretty goal in the Chicago Blackhawks’ 2-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night.
The Blackhawks are 4-0 against the Original Six rival Red Wings this season. They have won three straight overall and 6 of 7.
Alex DeBrincat added an empty-net goal with 58 seconds remaining.
MAPLE LEAFS 2, SENATORS 1: Alexander Kerfoot broke a tie with 9:14 left, Frederik Andersen made 27 saves and NHL-leading Toronto beat the last-place Ottawa, at Toronto.
Auston Matthews added his NHL-leading 14th goal for league-leading Toronto in the second game of three-game series in Toronto. Jake Muzzin had two assists.
Brady Tkachuk scored for Ottawa, and Matt Murray made 26 stops.
PANTHERS 4, HURRICANES 3: Jonathan Huberdeau scored his second goal of the game with 2:31 remaining in overtime as visiting Florida rallied to beat Carolina.
Huberdeau opened the scoring for Florida and added an assist before his seventh goal of the season sealed the win. Alex Wenneberg and Juho Lammikko also scored for the Panthers.
Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho scored in the first period and Vincent Trocheck added a goal in the third for the Hurricanes, who lost for the first time in five home games.
Panthers goalie Chris Driedger made 32 saves. Carolina’s Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 33 shots.
NOTES
RANGERS: The struggling New York Rangers will be without defenseman Jacob Trouba for the next 4 to 6 weeks because of a broken thumb.
That’s a significant blow to an underachieving team with playoff aspirations that has lost four in a row.
MVP finalist Artemi Panarin is expected to to return Thursday against Philadelphia after missing the past two games with a lower-body injury. Panarin, who was injured last week in a game against Boston, leads the team with five goals, 10 assists and 15 points.
The Rangers also expect defenseman K’Andre Miller to play after sitting out a loss Tuesday night to New Jersey with an upper-body injury. Jack Johnson was recently cleared to practice and isn’t ready to play yet.
