The Maine Memory Network section of the Maine Historical Society’s site is rich with virtual exhibits that you can spend hours looking at. In recognition of Black History Month, take the time to explore photography exhibit “A Convenient Soldier: The Black Guards of Maine.” You’ll see several compelling images as you learn about the African American Army soldiers assigned to guard Maine’s railways during World War II. As you view the images, you’ll see glimpses of the soldier’s lives in three Maine locations during a time of racial segregation in the country and the military.

Bates Dance Festival presents the Nichole Canuso Dance Company’s unique series of online experiences that connect two solo audience members at a time on Zoom. “Being/With: Home” is described as 60-minute poetic encounters with a stranger, accompanied by a tender and mysterious audio guide. The performances explore separation, connection and the power of listening, and if you dare, you’ll create something new. “Being/With: Home” was developed with support from New England Foundation for the Arts, National Dance Projects Award, Pennsylvania Humanities Council Pop-up Grant and FringeArts. Mad Horse Theatre Company presents a fabulous and fun virtual theater experience with Jared Mongeau. Mongeau’s show, “This is Just Intermission,” is a digital, physical comedy that explores what defines “live theater” during the pandemic through Mongeau’s clown character. The show features audience engagement by way of a talk-back session. The lines between physical and digital will be blurred in a unique way, as all technical elements of the play were designed using apps and smart devices, and it will be streamed from Mongeau’s bedroom.

Strand On The Air’s ‘Don’t Let the Internet Get You Down!’

Don’t touch that dial! At least not after 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, when you’ll want to gather around the radio and tune into WRFR out of Rockland/Camden. They’re teaming up with the Strand Theatre to present “Don’t Let the Internet Get You Down!” Led by the theater’s house manager and musical director Liz McLeod and musical director Brittany Parker, the show features announcer Dan Bookham, bits from the Strand Family Players and musical guest, Freya, which is the duo of vocalist Gretchen Haggard and guitarist Catherine Smith. So dust off your old boom box, turn up the stereo or hop online to stream the show, and get ready for lively laughs and marvelous music.
