A seven-year-old girl died in a late-night house fire on Monday in Lincoln, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshals’ Office.

An autopsy confirmed the identity of the child as Adele Parent, fire marshal’s spokeswoman Katy England said Tuesday. Complete results of the autopsy are pending tests.

Adele was a student at the Ella P. Burr elementary school, according to a notification sent Tuesday to RSU 67 families by Superintendent of Schools Jean M. Skorapa.

“I am deeply saddened to inform you that a student at Ella P. Burr School died tragically in a fire at her home last evening,” Skorapa said. “She was a beloved member of the Ella P. Burr School community and will be greatly missed.”

England said the fire at 256 Taylor St. was reported around 9:48 p.m. Monday.

When crews arrived, the home was engulfed in fire, with flames shooting as high as 30 feet into the air. Three adults and two other children escaped from the building, and were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Adele Parent was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincoln Fire Department Capt. Kenneth Goslin told News Center Maine that the family was known to firefighters, who did everything they could to get everyone out safely. Adele was trapped in a first-floor bedroom.

“My guys put lines down and were able to get the fire knocked down to a point where one could go into the room. One guy went in and found the girl. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do,” Goslin said.

Local businesses and neighbors have started fundraising efforts to benefit the family.

England said three investigators from the fire marshal’s office spent Tuesday at the house in an effort to determine the cause of the fire. Investigators will return Wednesday.

The Lincoln Police Department, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police assisted with the investigation.
