GOLF
PGA champion Collin Morikawa shot a 5-under 67 despite two bogeys on par-5 holes on the back nine, opening a two-stroke lead over Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel in the Workday Open at Bradenton, Florida.
Morikawa, who made seven birdies in an eight-hole stretch, was at 15-under 201.
Webb Simpson was three behind, and Rory McIlroy climbed to within four shots with a 66 as he overcame an early double bogey.
• Local favorite Rafael Campos took a share of the lead in the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open, waiting out a series of rain delays to shoot a 5-under 67.
The 32-year-old from San Juan followed a birdie on the par-4 17th with a bogey on the par-5 18th to drop into a tie for the lead with Grayson Murray at 14-under 202.
LPGA: Nelly Korda surged into the lead in the Gainbridge LPGA with a 4-under 68 in Orlando, Florida, that left her in position to make it consecutive wins for the Korda family to start the season.
Korda, whose older sister, Jessica, won the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions last month, had a one-stroke lead over Patty Tavatanakit.
Annika Sorenstam, playing for the first time in more than 12 years after retiring, shot a 79 and dropped to last place among players who made the cut.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Mike Weir went on a back-nine birdie binge to take control of the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona.
Weir shot a 5-under 67 to build a two-shot lead over Kevin Sutherland.
Tim Petrovic became the second player in PGA Tour Champions history to have a hole-in-one in consecutive rounds with an ace on No. 14, but he was five strokes behind Weir.
Phil Mickelson, trying to become the first player to win his first three career starts on a PGA Tour-sanctioned tour, was nine shots back after a 72.
TENNIS
ADELAIDE INTERNATIONAL: French Open champion Iga Swiatek beat Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-2 in Australia to win her second WTA title.
The 19-year-old Polish player did not drop a set in five matches and lost just 22 games all week.
OPEN SUD DE FRANCE: Top-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut beat Peter Gojowczyk, 7-5, 6-1, and advanced to the final in Montpellier, France, against second-seeded David Goffin.
Goffin defeated unseeded Egor Gerasimov, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
AUTO RACING
XFINITY: Myatt Snider won at Homestead-Miami Speedway for his first career victory, taking the checkered flag in overtime after Noah Gragson slammed into a lapped car with two laps remaining.
Snider spun his tires on the first of two restarts in overtime, but got a second chance thanks to another late caution. He didn’t make the same mistake twice, driving past Tyler Reddick and turning the final two laps without much of a test.
Reddick was second, followed by Brandon Jones, Daniel Hemric, Jeb Burton and pole-sitter Austin Cindric.
SOCCER
ENGLAND: Manchester City extended its winning streak to 20 games in all competitions with a 2-1 win over West Ham, thanks to goals from center backs Ruben Dias and John Stones.
ITALY: Injury-hit Juventus was held to a 1-1 draw at Hellas Verona, despite a goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, as its hopes of a record-extending 10th successive Serie A title took a blow.
Third-placed Juventus missed a chance to close in on the top two. Juventus is seven points below Inter Milan and three behind AC Milan.
SKIING
MEN’S WORLD CUP: Filip Zubcic won a giant slalom in Bansko, Bulgaria, overtaking world champion and first-run leader Mathieu Faivre by 0.40 seconds.
Stefan Brennsteiner was 0.93 behind in third for the Austrian’s first career podium.
WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Lara Gut-Behrami got her second downhill victory in two days in Moena, Italy, beating world champion Corinne Suter by 0.32 seconds for a Swiss 1-2 finish.
