Lorraine T. Begin

GORHAM – Lorraine T. Begin, 89, of Gorham, passed away on March 10, 2021 after experiencing a stroke. She was born May 24, 1931, the first child of Aime L. and M. Blanche (Richard) Thibeault. Raised in Westbrook she attended St. Hyacinth Catholic school. Her first employer was Dana Warp mill where she earned wages to help support her family. As the eldest child, she played the role of mother’s helper in caring for her siblings.

On Sept. 29, 1952 she married Louis N. Begin of Westbrook. They lived 59 wonderful years on Cumberland Street in the beautiful house that Louis built, where they raised their four children. They were devastated by the loss of their beloved only son in 1994.

Lorraine was a dedicated homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She loved gardening, family gatherings, and taking her children on fun outings including swimming in the Presumpscot River and ski trips to Mt. Abram. At the age of 45 she learned to ski so she could join her children in the fun. She also enjoyed traveling, including driving cross-country and taking cruises.

She remained close to her siblings and several childhood friends throughout her life. In recent years she enjoyed more frequent phone calls with her surviving siblings, Raymond, Laurissa and Jackie; sisters-in-law, Florence, Marie and Frances; and close friends Rachel and Dolores.

In addition to her son Mark, Lorraine was predeceased by her siblings, Diana, Arthur and Cecile; her parents; and husband, Louis. She is survived by daughters, Anne Rogers of Lake Alfred, Fla. and her children Scott and partner Kayla, Aimee and husband Steve, and Nick; Lise Matthews and husband Ken of Windham and son Richard and partner Katie; and Denise Greene and husband Paul of Naples and children Whitney, Shannon, and Adam and wife April; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering will be held on Saturday April 24 at Dolby, Blais and Segee in Westbrook beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. A light snack will be offered after the service.
