Jacob Lowe

SACO — Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, announced today that Jacob D. Lowe of Saco has accepted an offer to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Pingree nominated Lowe to the academy in December.

“Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student’s scholarship, community service, and character,” said Pingree. “Along with all the other Maine students I nominated, Jake has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving the country and a maturity well beyond his years. I’m very proud that he was accepted to the Military Academy and wish him the very best in his time there.”

“I look at the men and women of the Armed Forces who voluntarily sacrifice their own freedom — and sometimes their lives — to serve this great nation, as nothing less than heros,” Lowe wrote in his letter requesting a nomination. “This sacrifice, to me, is the most courageous thing a person can do. If I could be part of such a proud history, I would not only feel fulfilled within but I would be honored to be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Jake, a senior at Thornton Academy in Saco, is the son of Amy and James Lowe.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes Members of Congress.
