NEWARK, N.J. — Bryan Rust scored two goals and Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists in leading the streaking Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Jared McCann, Brian Dumoulin and Colton Sceviour also scored as the banged-up Penguins won their second game in as many nights and eighth in 11 games (8-2-1). Casey DeSmith made 25 saves in snapping a personal two-game losing streak.

Miles Wood scored two goals, and Jack Hughes and Jesper Boqvist had one each for the Devils.

Dumoulin gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead with less than a minute left in the first period with a point shot that deflected off the arm of Devils forward Janne Kuokannen. It gave him points in four straight games, matching his career high set in 2018.

RANGERS 4, ISLANDERS 1: Alexandar Georgiev made 31 saves in his first start since March 19, and Alexis Lafreniere and Colin Blackwell scored in the second period to lead the visiting Rangers.

Mika Zibanejad and K’Andre Miller also scored and Artemi Panarin had two assists for the Rangers.

Andy Greene scored and Semyon Varlamov finished with 32 saves as the Islanders had a five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 17-2-2 at home.

The teams meet again on Sunday night at Nassau Coliseum.

Georgiev improved to 7-1-0 in eight starts against the Islanders.

CAPITALS 4, SABRES 3: Justin Schultz had a goal and two assists, and Washington won at Buffalo.

Washington star Alex Ovechkin scored his 21st goal of the season and No. 727 for his career, moving within four of Marcel Dionne for fifth on the NHL list. Brenden Dillon and Jakub Vrana also scored in a game the Capitals never trailed.

Vitek Vanecek stopped 30 shots to earn his NHL rookie-leading 16th win. Washington stopped a two-game slide and improved to 6-0-1 against Buffalo this season.

Henri Jokiharju, Casey Mittelstadt and Tage Thompson scored for Buffalo. Dustin Tokarski made 29 saves and dropped to 0-4-1 on the season.

Tokarski hasn’t won since the journeyman backup stopped 25 shots in Montreal’s 3-1 victory over Ottawa on Dec. 12, 2015.

BLUES 9, WILD 1: Jaden Schwartz and Ryan O’Reilly each scored twice as St. Louis routed visiting Minnesota.

Justin Faulk and Sammy Blais each had a goal and two assists, and Zach Sanford, Jake Walman and Ivan Barbashev also scored for the Blues, who posted a season high for goals in a game.

NOTES

BLUE JACKETS: Defenseman Zach Werenski is out for the rest of the season and scheduled for sports hernia surgery, the latest blow to a team that has fallen out of playoff contention and is expected to sell at the NHL trade deadline on Monday.

PREDATORS: Nashville placed forward Filip Forsberg on injured reserve and said rookie forward Eeli Tolvanen (lower body injury) and defenseman Dante Fabbro (upper body injury) now are week to week.

Right wing Mathieu Olivier will miss four to six weeks because of a lower body injury after being hurt in the second period of Thursday night’s 7-1 win over Detroit.

AVALANCHE: Colorado Avalanche reacquired Patrik Nemeth, trading a fourth-round pick to the Detroit Red Wings for the veteran defenseman.

Nemeth spent two seasons in Colorado from 2017-19.
