Thomas C. Ferrante

PORTLAND – Thomas C. Ferrante, 83, of Hammond Street in Portland, passed away on Monday April 12, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, following a brief illness.

He was born in Portland on August 4, 1937 a son of Carmine and Lauorina (DePaulo) Ferrante. Tom was educated in Portland schools, and was a graduate of Portland High School, class of 1956. He married his high school sweetheart Donna Jones in 1960, together they have celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Tom was employed as a truck driver for Crosby-Laughlin for 18 years and later for C.P. Blouin for 10 years.

He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, was a 25-year member of the Italian Heritage Club where he enjoyed playing bocce and meeting with the Muffin Club.

Tom was a Little League umpire for 35 years helping with boys and girls softball and the Challenger Special Needs Kids. He loved going to Beano at Foxwoods, listening to country music and had a passion for dancing.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Donna (Jones) Ferrante; a daughter, Sharon Ferrante of Saco, three sons Santino of Falmouth, Peter of South Portland, and Carmine and his wife Priscilla of Midlothian,Va., son-in-law, James Vance of Cape Elizabeth; sisters Lucy Maxwell and husband Raymond of Windham, Mary Ann Maloney of Portland, Alvita Vecchione of Yarmouth, Connie Lane of Standish and sister-in-law, Kathleen Ferrante of Portland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Susan Vance; two sisters Antoinette Gignac and Arlene Sandora and two brothers Charlie and Santino Ferrante.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gosnell for the great care given to Tom.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday April 19, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday April 20, at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. CDC guidelines, masks and proper social distancing are required for all those in attendance.
