Re: “Letter to the editor: Rebuke of GOP legislator perpetuates ‘woke’ myths,” by Harry White (April 21, Page A11):

Mr. White states that there is no such thing in America as hate speech, only free speech. He states that the term “woke” is a one-syllable replacement for the two-syllable word “stupid.”

It is my opinion that Mr. White’s letter is a vile example of hate speech disguised as free speech. Mr. White asks for specific examples of perpetrators of violence toward Asians. You need look no further than the former president to identify a perpetrator of increased violence against Asians.

The term “woke” is used to alert us to injustice in society – especially racism. Mr. White’s phrases “Chinese virus” and “kung flu” – also used by the former president – are quite literally examples of hate speech and racism.

Since I’m sure Mr. White will think I am “a stupid Democrat” – again quoting his hate speech – I have a two-syllable word that I think is a replacement for the four-syllable word “Republican” – “free-dumb.”
