POLAND — Lyla Levesque scored the go-ahead run on an error in the sixth inning as Lake Region rallied for a 6-5 win and a split of its season-opening softball doubleheader against Poland on Friday.

In Game 1, Poland (2-1) scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 victory. Emma Bunyea hit two doubles and knocked in three runs, and Kaylin O’Leary and also had a double for the Knights.

Levesque, Emily Rock and Sadie Tirrell each had two hits for the Lakers in Game 1.

BIDDEFORD 16, WINDHAM 4: Winning pitcher Charlotte Donovan and Baylor Wilkinson each homered twice and drove in five runs for the Tigers (2-0) in a win over the Eagles (1-1) at Windham.

Biddeford finished with six home runs, including blasts by Laura Perreault and Chantelle Bouchard. The Tigers broke open a 5-4 game by scoring three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Donovan finished 3 for 4 with a walk and four runs scored.

Jaydn Kimball belted a three-run homer for Windham. Brooke Gerry had two hits and scored twice.

NOBLE 7, KENNEBUNK 0: Lexi Volinsky pitched a five-hitter and sparked a four-run third inning with an RBI single, leading the Knights past the Rams in a mutual season opener at Kennebunk.

Kiersten Davis and Ellie Gray also hit RBI singles in the third inning, and Lily Pelkey finished with two RBI. Tianna Valle had two hits and two runs scored.

THORNTON ACADEMY 18, CHEVERUS 2: Madison Vachon had two doubles and a triple, and Jessica Dow hit a homer and a double as the Golden Trojans (1-1) defeated the Stags (0-1) in Portland.

Abby Miner and Hannah Lappin also had two hits for Thornton.

SOUTH PORTLAND 9, BONNY EAGLE 5: Zoe Baker scored seven goals and set up Barrett Blackman’s two goals as the Red Riots (2-0) defeated the Scots (0-1) in South Portland.

Gretchen Biegel scored four goals for Bonny Eagle.

THORNTON ACADEMY 19, SANFORD 2: Grace Veroneau scored five goals, and Hazel Stoddard, Morgan Bolduc and Izzy White added three apiece as the Golden Trojans won their season opener, in Saco.

The Trojans also got two goals from Abby Brown, and one apiece from Emma Boissoneault, Faith Tillotson and Calley Forbes.

Catherine Works and Alia Chase scored for Sanford.

BIDDEFORD 17, NOBLE 5: Abby Allen recorded six goals and eight assists as the Tigers (1-1) cruised to a win over the Knights (0-2) in Biddeford.

Cece Keller contributed five goals and two assists, and Valentina Laflamme had four goals and an assists.

Jenna Baxter scored twice for Noble.

SCARBOROUGH 14, GORHAM 5: Molly Henderson scored four goals and Meagan Donovan had a goal and four assists as the Red Storm (1-0) handled the visiting Rams (0-2).

Paige Spooner added two goals and two assists, while Darby Stolz, Natalie Bilodeau and Erin Bresnahan also scored twice for Scarborough. Kathleen Murphy made eight saves.

Mary Dewitt tallied two goals, Allie Myles had a goal and two assists, and Kate Dupuis and Allie Light also scored for Gorham.

GREELY 15, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 6: Elsa Dean scored six goals and Sam Goldburg added four to power the Rangers to a season-opening win in Yarmouth.

Asja Kelman added a pair of goals for Greely, while Carly Ferrante, Ally Reed and Eva Williams each scored once.

Vy Tran had three goals for NYA, Emma Sharpe scored twice and Maggie Holt once.

LAKE REGION 15, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 0: Brianna Sargent scored four goals, and Katie Keenan and Shauna Hancock finished with two apiece as the Lakers (1-1) downed the 26ers (1-1) in Gray.

Leah Brogan, Rebecca Caron, Abigail Elsaesser, Olivia England, Rachel Lake, Ashley Pelliter, Mackenzie Siebert also scored.

Mackenzie Baston made 21 saves and Ellie Steele had eight ground balls for the 26ers.
