Greater Portland METRO has teamed up with other transit providers in southern Maine to create an interactive map to help people reach vaccine providers in Cumberland and York counties using public transportation.

“Lack of transportation is a barrier to many people seeking access to COVID-19 vaccines,” said Greg Jordan, executive director of Greater Portland METRO. “By providing this interactive map illustrating how public transit serves the region’s vaccination sites, we’re trying to help breakdown those barriers and make sure there’s equal access to vaccines.”

The map, which can be found at transittogether.org, is part of  the TransitTogether campaign launched last month, aimed at educating the public about what area transit operators are doing to ensure safe travel during the pandemic.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with ModivCare to offer free rides to any Maine resident who is unable to drive or lacks reliable transportation to get to and from vaccine appointments.
