Mary Camilla Pizzo McCarthy

SCARBOROUGH – Mary Camilla Pizzo McCarthy, 101, passed away April 29, 2021.

She was born May 15, 1919 in Carpinone, Italy the youngest twin to her sister, Millie Lane, and only daughter of Martin and Gelsomina Valerio Pizzo. Following immigrating to the United States, Mary resided in Portland. She attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School class of 1939.

Mary married Maurice “Bud” McCarthy in 1941 and in 1942 her daughter Judy was born. She was a stay at home mother until later on in her life. She went to work at the Puritan Tea Room where she worked the lunch counter until their closing after which she went to work at the Sportsman’s Grill until her mid 70s. She loved both restaurants and her bosses. Her twin sister Millie was called incredible and Mary was called amazing. Mary was quite the animal lover, especially cats and dogs.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bud; her daughter, Judith Stanhope, son-in-law Eddie Stanhope, grandson Eddie Stanhope, Jr.; brothers Alphonse and Joseph, sister, Millie; and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Jodi Stailing; great grandsons, Scott Stailing and his wife Kristen and Zachary Stanhope.

It was Mary’s wishes to have a private family service and no visiting hours.
