Friends of Merrymeeting Bay’s final presentation in its annual Winter Speaker Series, “River History & the New Environmental Movement,” will feature noted river historian Scot McFarlane at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12.

McFarlane collaborates with environmental organizations to tell their river’s history. A graduate of Bowdoin College, he spent two summers studying the ecology of Merrymeeting Bay. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Environmental History and The Journal of Southern History. McFarlane is completing his PhD in environmental history at Columbia University.

FOMB advocates for the health of Merrymeeting Bay, which is formed by the confluence of six rivers in Midcoast areas that include Bath, Brunswick and Topsham.
