Donald E. Mallory

SCARBOROUGH – Donald E. Mallory, 84, of Sawyer Street, died peacefully on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, following a brief illness. His loving family was by his side.

Donald was born July 25, 1936 in Portland, the son of the late David W. and Ella Serita (Phillips) Mallory. Donald graduated from Scarborough High School in the class of 1955, after which he worked with his brother, Gordon, lobster fishing until entering the United States Army in 1957 as a medic, with his service, primarily, spent in Germany.

In November of 1958 he married Christine Anne Tracy at Holy Cross Church in South Portland. Upon ending his military service, they moved to South Portland and eventually to Portland where he spent 22 years as a Portland Fire Fighter retiring as a lieutenant in 1982. He also held additional part time jobs as a very skilled tradesman. He enjoyed building his own home and many others as well as boats, furniture and working with his hands in many other areas.

Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman all over the state and elsewhere. He enjoyed gardening, his children and great- grandchildren. He spent a great deal of time enjoying the wildlife around his home and passed this love on to all of his children. He was an uncle and/or father to a generation of 42 1st cousins from Maine to Colorado and places in between.

Donald was predeceased by his siblings, David W. Mallory and wife Althea, Frances A. Mallory Cookson and husband John, Gordon A. Mallory and wife Nancy, Rodney Mallory and wife Marilyn, Miles Mallory, Phillips Mallory and first wife Virginia, Mary Ann Mallory-Davis and husband Burton. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Christine; six children, Michael of North Yarmouth, Stephen of Scarborough, Mary Alice Leet of Westbrook, Catherine Ella of Lewiston, Theresa and Margaret both of South Portland; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kaddie Rich, Stacy and Kevin Leet, Patricia Mallory and Michelle Todorich; three great- grandchildren, Marcus Antoine, Henry Stephen Todorich, and Matthew Seastrom all from various locations within Southern Maine; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the care and kindness shown to them during Donald’s stay there.

Visiting hours celebrating Donald’s life will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. Following state mandates, all attendees are required to wear a mask. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021.
