OXFORD — The town has delayed placing a dock at the boat launch on Thompson Lake along Route 121 near the Otisfield town line due to a question of ownership and liability.

The town is attempting to confirm the ownership of the boat launch, said Recreation Director Patty Hesse.

“We can’t find proof that it is ours,” Hesse says.

The state of Maine claims it does not own the property. A nearby property owner also claims that the boat launch is not part of his property, she said.

The boat launch is a small area located directly off Route 121 with minimal parking. The site has featured a dock for several years, Hesse said.

The town is researching ownership of the property and hopes to have the issue resolved by next week with the dock soon to follow.

Town Manager Adam Garland did not return calls seeking comment.

Oxford residents have two other sites in town to launch boats on Thompson Lake, Hesse said. One is located at Robinson’s Marina and the other is at Pismo Beach.

Thompson Lake is approximately 12-miles long and 2-miles wide and borders the towns of Oxford, Otisfield, Poland and Casco.
