FALMOUTH – Cheryl Marie (Casassa) Brogan, 74, of McKinley Road, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, after a brave battle with Mesothelioma.

Cheryl was born in Leominster, Mass., to Alfred and Alice (Burns) Casassa on May 4, 1946. She grew up in Leominster but starting at age 6 she spent every summer running wild with her maternal grandparents in Augusta.

Cheryl graduated from St Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg, Mass. and obtained a bachelor’s and MAT degrees in Teaching from Fitchburg State College. She taught English at Littleton High School for seven years before taking time off to raise her children. She ran a custom home construction business for 10 years in Harvard, Mass. with her ex-husband. She joined Digital Equipment Corporation as a Technical Writer and earned her PMP and a M.Ed. in Human Resource Education from Boston University during her career there. She retired from her role as Global Learning Program Manager at HP after 21 years with DEC/Compaq/HP and continued working as a Program Manager for QLytix, Inc for five years.

Cheryl also volunteered in a number of roles. She was a Brownie troop leader, volunteered at Harvard Elementary School and served as the Editor of the literary publication, Fine Lines. She also taught CCD at St Theresa’s and helped with the production of the Harvard Ecumenical Christmas Pageant for several years. Cheryl held leadership roles on the Harvard PTA, and on the board of the Maine Chapter of American Society for Training and Development.

In 2004, Cheryl was so happy to relocate to Maine after all the wonderful times she experienced there as a child. She was the center of her family, supporting her daughters through their education and beyond. She loved her grandchildren who were lucky to live in her neighborhood and see her every day.

Cheryl enjoyed making her houses beautiful inside and out. She was an avid gardener and loved having her grandchildren pick strawberries, peas, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes from her garden every summer. She had an eye for aesthetics and was known to put together beautiful table settings for holidays and family get togethers. Cheryl also enjoyed photography and was proud of the recent publication of several photos in the OLLI Reflections magazine. She was also fascinated with genealogy and enjoyed making connections with distant relatives and uncovering new information on her family tree.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Cote and her husband Kurt, and Eleanor Maciag and her husband Andrei; grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Cote and Thomas and Alice Maciag all of Falmouth. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Casassa of Leominster, and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; and nephew Matthew Casassa.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rafael Bueno and the staff at the International Mesothelioma Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the physicians and nurses on Bean 5 at Maine Medical Center, and the staff of Gosnell Hospice House for the care and comfort they provided to Cheryl.
