Portland police are investigating an incident during which someone fired a handgun at a driver at the intersection of Riverside Street and Warren Avenue.

Police say officers patrolling near the intersection at 3:18 a.m. Thursday heard gunshots and were able to locate a 37-year-old Portland man who witnessed the shooting. The man told police that the occupant of a silver Mercedes sedan had just fired a handgun at him as he sat in his car at the traffic light.

Several bullets hit the man’s car and officers found several casings in the road. No one was hurt during the incident, according to police.

Police say there may have been an altercation between the vehicles before the shots were fired.
