I urge Portland residents to vote for Charter Commission candidates who will not support a strong mayoral role in our city government.
After witnessing the extremism and divisiveness brought to our lives by political elections, I do not want to see Portland fall to special interests and party favoritism that come from expensive elections, nor do I want the added government expense that comes with a strong mayor’s staff and salary.
Our district city councilors are already in place to steer the city manager according to the wishes of their constituents. Leave the administration of the city to a professional city manager and not to whoever raises the most campaign dollars.
