BALTIMORE — Aaron Judge hit two more home runs against Baltimore, Gio Urshela had a go-ahead, pinch-hit shot and the New York Yankees overcame a spate of injuries to beat the Orioles 5-4 Friday night.

Judge is now 10 for 19 with five home runs facing the Orioles this season. He has 13 career multihomer games, five of them against Baltimore.

Urshela is still hampered by a left knee injury but was available off the bench in the seventh. After Miguel Andújar singled and Kyle Higashioka earned a walk, Urshela hit the second pinch-hit homer of his career off Travis Lakins (1-4) to erase a 4-2 deficit.

The Yankees were missing several key players, including shortstop Gleyber Torres (COVID-19), center fielder Aaron Hicks (left wrist) and slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who was a late scratch with left quad tightness.

ROYALS, WHITE SOX SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER: Rookie Andrew Vaughn, starting the nightcap at first base after AL MVP Jose Abreu was injured in a frightening collision in the first game, homered to send Chicago over Kansas City 3-1 for a doubleheader split in Chicago.

The Royals ended an 11-game losing streak in the opener 6-2, stopping Chicago’s six-game winning string.

The collision occurred in the second inning when Hunter Dozier, after popping up, jogged out of the batter’s box with his head down and grazed past catcher Yasmani Grandal.

Dozier took another couple of steps and then slammed hard into Abreu as he was tracking the ball, knocking both players to the ground about 20 feet from the plate.

Grandal caught the ball as trainers and medical staffs came onto the field. After few minutes, Abreu got up and left the field walking on his own, but looked dazed with his arms draped around two staffers.

INTERLEAGUE

CUBS 4, WHITE SOX 2: Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and visiting Chicago went on to a victory over the Tigers, snapping Detroit’s four-game winning streak.

Jake Arrieta (4-3) faced the minimum number of hitters until the bottom of the sixth, when Detroit’s Jake Rogers and Robbie Grossman hit consecutive home runs with two out. That was all the scoring for the Tigers, who entered the night with the second-worst record in baseball, percentage points ahead of Minnesota.

Joc Pederson had three hits for the Cubs, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

RAYS 3, METS 2: Brett Phillips hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning and Tampa Bay stopped the Mets’ seven-game winning streak, rallying past New York in St. Petersburg, Florida.

After starters Tyler Glasnow and David Peterson both pitched well into the late innings, the Rays came back against the Mets’ bullpen.

Tied at 2, Tampa Bay loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Miguel Castro (0-1) on a walk to Brandon Lowe, a single by Willy Adams and a walk to Mike Zunino.

Reliever Aaron Loup struck out Joey Wendle before Phillips singled.

PIRATES 3, GIANTS 2: Adam Frazier tripled home the tying run in the 11th inning with his fourth hit of the game and scored the winner on Gregory Polanco’s sacrifice fly as Pittsburgh rallied to win at home.

After Austin Slater’s single put the Giants ahead in the top of the 11th, Frazier led off the bottom half with his hit high off the 21-foot Clemente Wall in right field. That scored Michael Perez, who began the inning as the automatic runner on second base.

Realmuto was cleared to return by Major League Baseball and was the designated hitter and batting fourth for Friday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida.

Realmuto felt ill and had a fever Wednesday night and was placed on the IL in accordance with MLB protocols. He didn’t accompany the team on its flight to Florida but traveled on his own.

Slugger Giancarlo Stanton was scratched with left quad tightness less than an hour before the first pitch. His status for the rest of the series is uncertain.

BRAVES: Veteran catcher Tyler Flowers retired a week after signing a minor league contract with Atlanta.

MLB.com first reported Flowers’ decision and noted that he hurt his back last weekend. Braves Manager Brian Snitker confirmed Flowers’ retirement while speaking to reporters before their game Friday with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Flowers, 35, played for the Braves from 2016-20 after spending seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox.
