Plante said she didn’t think there would be any end-of-the-year celebrations at the beginning of her senior year. “We’re doing a prom and we’re also having a somewhat normal graduation, so I’m just really thankful because I know last year the seniors weren’t able to do anything.”

Prom adviser Stephanie Moutsatsos, who has known the students for years, said the senior class of 2021 is especially “tight knit” and that being able to host a night of togetherness and celebration was really important for the staff. “We wanted them to have the memory of that evening and of them all together as seniors.”  Buy this Photo

Old Orchard Beach High seniors react after their principal and superintendent John Suttie tells them that their graduation would be held at the Seaside Pavilion . It is a longstanding tradition for the high school graduations to be held at the town’s pavilion, but due to social distancing and capacity rules, the 2021 graduation was scheduled to be held on the football field. Old Orchard Beach High students dance the cupid shuffle together. Prom adviser Stephanie Moutsatsos said that in a way the seniors-only event almost ended up better than a “normal” prom. “They came together in friend groups and they just enjoyed being with their class for the evening,” she said.  Buy this Photo
