Chief Bob Mackenzie of the Kennebunk Police Department will address the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club on the opioid epidemic and substance use disorder over Zoom on Thursday Sept. 23 at 7:30 a.m.

The opioid epidemic and substance abuse are getting worse in Maine, with the state having averaged 50 overdose deaths per month so far this year, Mackenzie said. The state is on track this year to exceed the 502 resident overdose deaths in 2020. More Mainers died of overdose last year than died of COVID, said Mackenzie who is chairperson of the Rotary District 7780 Recovery Initiative.
