Lucy Johnson’s first-quarter goal held up as Cheverus earned a 1-0 win over Scarborough in a defensive struggle between unbeaten field hockey teams Thursday afternoon in Portland.

Johnson scored unassisted through traffic on the only shot of the first half.

Scarborough (4-1) had chances in the second half, only to be stymied by Cheverus goalie Logan Lefevre, who made three saves. Katie Roy stopped two shots for Scarborough.

Cheverus is now 4-0.

THORNTON ACADEMY 2, MARSHWOOD 1: Taylor Nelson broke a tie with less than five minutes remaining, lifting the Golden Trojans (2-3) over the Hawks (0-4) at South Berwick.

Elise Axelsen also scored for Thornton. Brooke Salvail got the lone goal for Marshwood.

FALMOUTH 4, NOBLE 0: Charlize Kelly scored twice and Chloe Bush had three assists as the Navigators (4-1) handled the Knights (1-4) at Falmouth.

Anna Turgeon and Allison Sweetser also scored.

Trinity Valley made 13 saves for Noble.

MASSABESIC 2, GORHAM 1: Charlize Anderson’s overtime goal gave the Mustangs (5-0) a win over the Rams (3-1) in Waterboro.

MESSALONSKEE 1, BRUNSWICK 0: Alyson Violette scored just 1:25 into the game and Skye Sadler made 10 saves as the Eagles (5-1) beat the Dragons (3-1-1) in Brunswick.

LEAVITT 5, MORSE 0: Cierra Barker scored a hat trick for the Hornets (3-1) in a win over the Shipbuilders (2-2-1) in Turner.

Emma Beedy added a goal and two assists, and Ava Gagnon also scored. Eve Martineau recorded two assists.

Paige DeMascio stopped 10 shots for the shutout. Morse goalie Gracie Hawkins turn aside 15 shots.

BOYS’ SOCCER

GORHAM 5, CHEVERUS 0: Ryan Collier notched a pair of goals and Nick Phinney stopped all four shots he faced as the Rams (1-3) blanked the Stags (2-3) at Portland.

Gorham also got goals from Cole Bishop, Aiden Dimick and Asa Farley, who sent a volley into the top right corner from about 22 yards.

PORTLAND 3, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Martin Kalala, Kia Dilamini and Oliver Hettenbach scored as the Bulldogs (3-2) defeated the Golden Trojans (1-3) at Saco.

MARSHWOOD 4, BIDDEFORD 1: Trevor Wozny, Wyatt Yager, Declan Fitzgerald and Connor Sullivan scored a goal apiece as the Hawks (4-1) erased an early deficit against the Tigers (1-4) in Biddeford.

Ayouba Fofana put Biddeford ahead midway though the first half.

SOUTH PORTLAND 6, SANFORD 1: Joey Perron scored in each half, Divin Mpinga set up two goals and the Red Riots (3-1) cruised past the Spartans (1-4) in South Portland.

South Portland led 3-0 at halftime on goals by Jack Dreifus, Sam Kierstead and Perron. Jack Houle and Che-Hao Saito added second-half goals.

Brady Taylor scored for Sanford.

YARMOUTH 5, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 1: Steve Fulton scored twice in the first half, starting the Clippers (5-0) on their way to a win over the Panthers (3-2) at Yarmouth.

Aidan Kamm also scored before halftime, then added a goal off a cross early in the second half. Will Caruso converted a free kick from 20 yards for his first goal of the season.

Bryce Poulin broke up the shutout bid late in the contest, scoring from a scrum just outside the crease.

WAYNFLETE 4, RICHMOND 1: Jacob Woodman tallied two goals and Samir Sayed and Matt Adey had one apiece as the Flyers (5-0) cruised to a win over the Bobcats (1-2) at Portland.

Zander Steele scored for Richmond.

SANFORD 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Taylor Tovey finished with a hat trick as she powered the Spartans (1-3) to a win over the Red Riots (0-4) in Sanford.

Emerson Tolpin also scored for Sanford. Julissa McBarron made five saves for the win.

THORNTON ACADEMY 2, PORTLAND 1: Macie Boucher got her second goal of the game three minutes into overtime, lifting the Golden Trojans (3-1) over the Bulldogs (1-4) at Portland.

Eliza Stein scored for Portland, and Vanessa Connolly made 16 saves.

GORHAM 3, CHEVERUS 1: Maddy Michaud opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, and the Rams (3-0-1) also got goals from Libby Frey and Mikayla Martarano in a win over the Stags (3-1) at Gorham.

Allie Light assisted on Martarano’s goal, which gave Gorham a 3-0 halftime lead.

Rams goalie Rachel Gross made six saves.

Annie Vigue scored for Cheverus, and Emily Bontatibus stopped eight shots.

WINDHAM 8, MASSABESIC 0: Sarah Talon and Abbey Thornton each recorded a hat trick for the Eagles (4-0) in a win over the Mustangs (0-4) at Windham.

Stella Jarvais and Ashley Clark also scored. Windham keeper Eliza Trafford faced only one shot on goal.

Jasmine Page made 12 saves for Massebesic.

WAYNFLETE 1, RICHMOND 0: Waynflete keeper Jesse Connors stopped a pair of penalty kicks, and Lucy Hart’s goal nine minutes into the game held up as the Flyers (2-2) shut out the Bobcats (1-2) in Portland.

BUCKFIELD 10, BOOTHBAY/WISCASSET 0: Annabelle Thone scored three goals and set up another as the Bucks (2-2) rolled past the Seahawks (0-2) in Wiscasset.

Cora Brewster collected two goals and an assist, and Isabelle Laughton and Brittany Carrier each had a goal and assist. Kai Trenoweth, Sami Patenaude and Mya Austin also scored.

Emilie Crocker made 21 saves for Boothbay/Wiscasset.
