PORTLAND – Kerttu E. Horvat passed away peacefully at The Cedars, Portland, at the age of 92.

She is survived by her children Elaine Pawlowski, Karen Fluker, and Diane Horvat of Charleston, S.C., Ingrid Horvat of Old Orchard Beach, Andrew Horvat of Saco, and John Horvat of Portland; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and extended family in Finland.

She was predeceased by her sons George and Michael Horvat.

Kerttu came to the United States from Helsinki, Finland and became a citizen in 1962. She worked as a registered nurse in Finland, Mich. and Maine. As a working mother she still made sure to have time for her children.

Retiring to Portland, she became a member of the Park Avenue Church of God and attended services regularly. She was a talented artist and singer and shared these passions with her family. She made sure that family did not forget her Finnish heritage.

Private funeral arrangements will be made by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Volunteers of America, Portland.
