Cape Elizabeth senior quarterback Caden McDuffie, joined by his parents, Jim and Elizabeth, smiles after announcing at a ceremony Wednesday that he’ll attend and play football at Louisiana Christian University, an NAIA Division I school in Pineville, Louisiana. McDuffie led the Capers to their first Class C state title in November and was named Cape Elizabeth’s Fall Athlete of the Year.

“Definitely growing up, my dream was to play college football,” McDuffie said. “I trusted the process, my coaches and teammates, and now I’m here. I saw on Twitter that (Louisiana Christian) needed a quarterback, so I reached out and the coach said, ‘I’d love to have a Maine kid here, come check it out.’ I visited and loved the environment and the campus is beautiful.”

McDuffie came to the Capers from Las Vegas and made the most of his abbreviated time in a Cape Elizabeth uniform.

“Cape taught me small-town football and doing things for your community,” McDuffie said. “I wanted to bring the first championship in school history and write my teammates and my name in the history books.”
