An early morning fire Saturday destroyed a house on the western shore of Sebago Lake.

According to the Town of Sebago Fire Department, crews responded to reports of a fire at 4 Sebaik Shores Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. Backup was called for immediately upon arrival, and eventually 17 area towns responded with firefighters and apparatus.

It took nearly seven hours to douse the flames. The house was considered a total loss. Sebago fire officials said the effort was hampered because the road is narrow with limited room for trucks to turn around. That was further complicated by large snowbanks.

There were no reports of injuries. It wasn’t clear if anyone was staying at the house when the fire broke out.

Sebaik Shores Road is located off Route 114 in Sebago, on the northwestern edge of one of the state’s signature lakes.
